"Elegance is not about being noticed, it’s about being remembered." Edward Molyneux

Among Edward Molyneux’s lesser-known but profoundly evocative works are Laundry Boats on the Seine and Still Life of Lemons and Vessels—each signed and demonstrating his refined artistic sensibility beyond the world of couture.

Laundry Boats on the Seine, measuring 32 x 40 cm and ornately framed, captures a serene riverside scene where laundry boats drift gently along the Seine. Molyneux’s delicate brushwork and muted palette evoke the rhythms of everyday life, rendered with an elegance that reflects both his painterly skill and his nuanced understanding of light and atmosphere.

In contrast, Still Life of Lemons and Vessels, a larger unframed work at 49 x 65 cm, transforms humble objects into a quiet meditation on form, colour, and composition. The interplay of citrus yellow against subtle earthen tones reveals Molyneux’s mastery of still life tradition, marrying simplicity with sophistication.

Both pieces, signed by the artist, were purchased at Gorringes auction and came from the same local private seller in Lewes, adding a layer of intimate provenance to their history. Prized by collectors for their understated beauty and historical significance, these works stand as enduring testaments to Molyneux’s versatility and the breadth of his creative vision—qualities that continue to enhance their value and appeal in today’s art market. These prints are more than images; they are fragments of photographic history, capturing Haskins’ daring exploration of mood, narrative, and the female form. The works hail from a period when Haskins was redefining fashion and nude photography, imbuing his compositions with cinematic flair and an unapologetic sensuality that continues to influence artists today.
